Grants for Creative Sector Innovation and Sustainability in Alberta (Canada)
GrantID: 73946
Grant Funding Amount Low: $1,500
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $25,000
Summary
A flexible grant opportunity is currently available to support arts-focused initiatives in a specific region of Western Canada. This funding is designed to help organizations rethink and reshape how they operate, especially when considering major shifts in direction, structure, or sustainability. Nonprofit organizations, including charities and grassroots groups, are eligible to apply, particularly those involved in creative and cultural work. The funding is not available to for-profit businesses or individuals.
The grant is best suited for organizations that are ready to explore or implement new strategies for long-term resilience. This may include testing alternative business models, restructuring leadership or operations, forming partnerships, or addressing complex transitions such as mergers or closures. The funding is not intended for programming or event support, but rather for behind-the-scenes transformation that positions an organization for the future.
Two levels of funding are offered. The first provides up to $15,000 for planning and exploration, allowing groups to research needs, engage in consultations, and prepare for major changes. The second offers up to $25,000 to implement those ideas, supporting concrete steps toward significant organizational shifts. Applicants may begin with exploration and later apply for implementation, or request both in sequence depending on their readiness.
This grant is offered throughout the year with multiple opportunities to apply. Applicants must be located within a defined region in Alberta and must not have active funding from certain other local arts funders for the same work. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis within set intake windows, and consultation before applying is strongly encouraged.
The overall intent of this funding is to empower arts organizations to think strategically, take bold steps toward change, and ultimately strengthen their long-term impact in their communities.
Those working in Arts, Culture, History & Humanities and located in Alberta may meet the eligibility criteria for this grant. To browse other funding opportunities suited to your focus areas, visit The Grant Portal and try the Search Grant tool.
