This grant is available to non-profit organizations. It provides matching funding of up to $125,000 to support projects that enhance public-use community facilities and green spaces. Funds may be used to construct, expand, upgrade, or purchase facilities like community halls, cultural centers, parks, sports fields, outdoor recreation areas, and related equipment. Planning and design fees for capital projects are also eligible.
Projects must be publicly accessible and serve broad community interests, such as arts, culture, heritage, recreation, and sport. Stand-alone equipment purchases integral to facility use—such as furniture, cooking appliances, or accessible-pathway hardware—also qualify. The program prioritizes projects that are well-planned and ready to proceed, with clearly defined budgets, timelines, and permits. Only one grant per facility is allowed per fiscal year, and funding must supplement the applicant’s own financial contribution rather than cover more than 50% of total project costs.
Applicants must hold at least one year of operation in the region and either own or have a long-term usage agreement for the facility. Eligible organizations include registered charities or non-profits under provincial and federal acts. Municipalities, educational institutions, for-profit businesses, and individuals cannot apply. Matching contributions are required and may include donated labor, materials, or cash; volunteer time and other in-kind contributions must be verifiable.
Applications are accepted three times a year, with deadlines on January 15, May 15, and September 15. Notifications follow approximately six months later, and projects must be completed within 18 months of funding. Applicants must report on progress and expenses to ensure accountability. This opportunity is ideal for community-based organizations looking to invest in facility improvements that foster public engagement, enhance local services, and support long-term vibrancy in arts, culture, recreation, or heritage during their planning and construction phases.
