Summary

This grant is designed to empower registered nonprofits, community associations, and business improvement areas to create lively, accessible public activations. Projects can include live performances, art installations, creative place‑keeping activities, sports initiatives, and community events—essentially anything that animates public spaces to foster connection, safety, and vibrancy.

A total of $1 million is available each intake, with individual projects eligible for up to $50,000. The grant covers up to 75% of eligible project costs, excluding in‑kind contributions; successful applicants must secure the remaining 25% in cash or sponsorship support. Each organization may receive one award per intake cycle, and cannot double‑dip with other similar microgrants. Funds are intended for programming and delivery—not for capital expenditures like permanent equipment or building upgrades. Projects must be open to the general public, ideally in visible, inclusive settings; organizers are encouraged to make events free or low‑cost and to explain any fee structure that still promotes broad access.

The application process begins with an expression of interest, with select applicants invited to complete a full proposal. Timelines typically run through an EOI deadline, followed by invitations and full applications, with decisions announced within weeks, and final reports required upon project completion—usually within a defined period.

Selection is based primarily on how well the initiative aligns with core goals: activating public space, fostering inclusion, enhancing safety, and promoting cultural vitality.

Creativity, accessibility, and community impact also play significant roles in evaluation.

In essence, this grant offers up to $50,000 to nonprofit and community-focused groups. It supports vibrant, accessible arts, culture, and sports initiatives that enrich public life, enhance safety, and spark engagement—funding the doing rather than building, and prioritizing visible community benefit.
